Maintenance and Improvement of Emergency Response Capabilities
*Takahama Units 3 and 4

In preparation for emergencies, Kansai Electric Power consistently ensures the deployment of necessary personnel so that appropriate emergency response actions can be taken even on weekday nights and on weekends and holidays. At the same time, we are making an effort to enhance the emergency response capabilities of those involved by continuously improving our education/training programs. In addition, we have placed an organizational system to ensure that plant vendors and manufacturers can provide timely technical assistance as well as materials and equipment.

Education/Training Program on an Assumption of an Accident
Integrated Nuclear Disaster Prevention Drill

Integrated nuclear disaster prevention drills are conducted assuming a severe accident during which all on-site power supplies are lost, disabling cooling of the reactor.

Drill on power supply

Drills on connection and startup of a power supply car are conducted on an assumption of unavailability of power supply from transmission lines and diesel generators. In addition, nighttime drills are also conducted.

Drill on control of radioactive release

Drills on control of radioactive release to the environment are conducted on an assumption of containment vessel failure.

Drill on removal of rubbles using a heavy machine

Drills on removal of rubbles using heavy machines deployed on-site are conducted to ensure the access of workers and vehicles as well as passages assuming that a tsunami or flooding makes rubbles being scattered across the site area.
