Stable Energy Supply
To consistently supply electricity at all times
Preparedness against a failure of transmission line or substation
With a mission to keep transmission lines safe as the lifeline, front-line workers participate in the company-wide competition workshop held in autumn every year to perform and improve their technical skills to be prepared in case of an accident. In Fiscal 2012, they tackled with field recovery work assuming a failure of electric equipment due to disasters, such as typhoons and earthquakes, which caused unavailability of power supply.
In the area of workering/system operation, workers, who are responsible for transmission lines and substations to deliver the electricity generated at power stations to nearby the places of demand, work on individual tasks in four different areas, hydropower generation, overhead power transmission, underground power transmission and control.
Employees are working hard to improve their expertise and skills in each responsible field by competing with each other to keep the lifeline safe.
In the area of overhead power transmission, workers are required to work on swift recovery activities within a limited time at an elevation of 16-17 meters on the steel tower assuming damage to a transmission line by fallen trees due to an earthquake. The chief worker on the ground sends strict instructions and the workers proceed with recovery work in accordance with the instructions while keeping good concentration and feeling of tension. Voices may hardly reach to workers on the steel tower when strong wind is blowing. Team work is essential to achieve the objective because several workers work at the same time. In this regard, it is important for individual team members including the chief worker who gives instructions to be fully prepared with deep understanding about their tasks.
In the area of hydropower generation substation, the participants work on the replacement of electric equipment in the substation; the participants in the area of underground power transmission work on the recovery of power cables buried underground; workers in the area of control tackle with the recovery of the system protection relay to prevent damage to transmission/distribution lines; individual workers pursued individual tasks making full use of skilled techniques.
Taking advantage of such an opportunity, workers in individual branch offices around the nation meet together and compete with each other to improve their abilities developed through daily front-line activities. At the same time, enhancing the sense of mission to deliver safe and stable electricity at all times thorough these opportunities will directly lead to keeping the lifeline safe.
