Kansai Electric Power Co., Inc. (the Company) announces that at the meeting of the Board of Directors held today, the Company resolved the retirement of treasury stock pursuant to Article 178 of the Company Law of Japan.

1. Class of shares to be retired:   Kansai Electric ordinary shares
     
2. Number of shares to be retired:   8,000,000 shares
(Representing 0.8% of total outstanding shares before retirement)
     
3. Scheduled date of retirement:   June 30, 2008
