We at Kansai Electric Power Company will handle the retained personal information of customers and others in the following manner and with an awareness of the important responsibility of properly protecting personal information (including “individual numbers” and “specific personal information” (personal information including the individual number amongst its content)) in order to fulfill our corporate mission and prove ourselves worthy of the trust and confidence placed in us by our customers and many others in society.
1. Basic Principles
We fully recognize that personal information is something that should be handled very carefully having respect to each person as an individual. Therefore, we will appropriately handle personal information in accordance with laws and regulations, and also taking into consideration the right to privacy and other rights. Furthermore, we will review our handling of personal information as needed and continually strive for improvement.
2. Acquisition of Personal Information
We will acquire personal information properly without resorting to falsification or other fraudulent means.
3. Use of Personal Information
In principle, we will use the personal information that we have acquired within the scope required to achieve the “Purpose of Use of Personal Information” in order to facilitate our proper and smooth business operations.
And, of the personal information that we have acquired, we will use individual numbers and specific individual information within the scope of the purpose of use in order to perform the business operations prescribed in laws and regulations.
4. Joint Use of Personal Information
We may jointly use personal information based on our “Joint Use Privacy Policy”. And we may also jointly use personal information outside the scope of the “Joint Use Privacy Policy” with notice to the individual concerned.

5. Disclosure and Provision to Third-Parties
We will never disclose or provide our retained personal data to any third party except under the following circumstances:
  • With the consent of the individual concerned.
  • Disclosure and provision of personal information to our subcontractors as necessary in the course of our business operations.
    In this case, we will disclose or provide the information after first concluding a non-disclosure agreement with the subcontractor and confirming that the personal information will be properly handled.
  • When there is another valid reason such as when we are obliged to disclose or provide information based on laws.
6. Secure Management and Ensuring Personal Information is Up-to-Date
When using and storing personal data, we take the following safety measures against risks such as loss, destruction, falsification, leakage, and unauthorized access to information systems, and monitor our employees and contractors appropriately.
And we will strive to ensure that our retained personal data is accurate and up-to-date within the scope required to achieve the purpose of use.
  • In systematic security control measures, we conduct a development of plan for information security measures, regular inspections by the administrator, and an establishment of a system for both normal and emergency situations.
  • In human security control measures, we conduct regular training for all employees and provide guidance to the employees in charge of handling personal information and specified personal information.
  • In physical security control measures, we conduct an access control to our buildings, an appropriate management of media containing data related to personal information, and a clarification of areas where specific personal information, such as personal information requiring consideration, is handled
  • In technical security control measures, we conduct an access control and management of various information systems, a protection by encryption, etc., and an introduction of security measures for protection of information systems.
7. Disclosure, Correction, Inquiries, etc.
We will comply with requests from individuals to disclose or correct retained personal data, and respond to any inquiries about our handling of personal information, in accordance with the provisions of laws and regulations.

Demand control contracting parties refer to business operations who have concluded demand control quantity adjustment service contracts with general electricity transmission and distribution utilities (including business operators who have acquired a business code prior to concluding a contract).   5. *5. An electricity retail intermediaries is an entity who undertake a retail supply contract under their own name based on our calculations.
  6. *6. “Intermediary service to terminate contracts for retail supply, etc.” is when an electricity retailer who has received an application for the conclusion of a new contract for retail supply, etc. from a customer requests to terminate the existing contract for retail supply, etc. entered into by and between the customer and their previous electricity retailer on behalf of the customer.

  • Scope of Joint Users
    We may jointly use personal information with the following parties*1.
    • Business operators engaged in gas safety, the repair/sale of gas facilities/equipment, gas sales agency business and the like (hereinafter, "Kansai Electric Power Company Gas Partner Companies and Organizations")*2
    We may add to or change the above-stated business operators. In this case we will provide at least 1 month's notice of such addition or change via revision to the "List of Kansai Electric Power Company Gas Partner Companies and Organizations".

    1. (1) To gather information in order to enhance the safety and quality of supply facilities/owned gas appliances (including incidental facilities) and alarms (hereinafter, “Gas Appliances, etc.”)
    2. (2) To provide information about and sell (including rental/lease) energy equipment/Gas Appliances, etc.
    3. (3) For the repair of Gas Appliances, etc. within the warranty period and other repairs
    4. (4) For the smooth execution of safety activities and the settlement of receivables and debts between joint users arising in connection with energy equipment/Gas Appliances, etc.

    1. (1) Provision of a request form:
      We will post a special request form to any customer who makes a request to the service desk for disclosure, etc. in accordance with the law, etc.
    2. (2) Submission of request form:
      Please fill in all required items on the request form and return it by post. Please also write “Contains request regarding retained personal data” in red ink on the envelope. The “requester”, on the request form, refers to the individual identified by the retained personal data that is the subject of the request, and the “proxy of the requester” refers to the individual submitting the request form on behalf of the requester.
    3. (3) Identify verification:
      When submitting a request form, please enclose copies of the necessary documents (driver's license, various health insurance cards or pension handbooks, etc., passport, certification of seal registration, individual number card, etc.; hereinafter, “Identity Verification Documents”) to confirm the identity of the requester or the proxy of the requester.
    4. (4) Request by Proxy:
      [1] If the request form is submitted by someone who has received a letter of proxy from the requester as a proxy of the requester, then please enclose the letter of proxy along with copies of the requester's Identity Verification Documents in the envelope.

Copies of the requester's Identity Verification Documents are not required in this case.

    5. (5) Handling of Identity Verification Documents:
      We will immediately shred and dispose of copies of Identity Verification Documents of the requester or proxy of the requester after we have confirmed the identity of the individual unless specially requested otherwise. Please mask (color over, etc.) the items displayed in the Identity Verification Documents which are not required for identify verification before submitting these documents.
    6. (6) Response:
      We shall, in principle, post by mail a written reply to the individual (requester or proxy of the requester) who submitted the request form. If the request is submitted by a proxy of the requester and you wish for the written response to be sent to the requester, then please make an indication to that effect when submitting the request form. We strive to promptly reply to the requests we have received; however, please allow around 10 business days after receipt of the request for the written reply to be posted. Please note that we may not be able to respond to requests as desired, such as not being able to disclose the requested retained personal data.
    7. (7) Handling Fee:
      We charge a handling fee of 500 yen (including consumption taxes, etc.) for each request for notification of the purpose of use based on paragraph 2 of Article 32 of the Act on the Protection of Personal Information and for each request for disclosure based on paragraph 1 of Article 33 of the same Act. (We will notify of the method of payment before disclosing the information, etc.)
      • * The above handling fee will be charged for requests made from October 3, 2005.
      • * We may charge an additional separately-specified fee for requests to disclose special content in the case it would necessitate a long internal investigation, etc.
